Having a more competitive foldable phone market than ever before, Samsung replied with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, a slimmer, more durable gadget and more pricey than its predecessor. Said the least, it’s an interesting strategy for the increased competitiveness.

Although we are still examining the new phone for our complete review, our Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 hands-on give some initial impressions. About Samsung’s most recent book-style foldable, we have lots to enjoy; nevertheless, we also find a few things disappointing.

Does the positive exceed the negative? That relates to our Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 review decision-making. However, we can provide some analysis on where the Fold excels and where it falls if you’re debating whether to grab the phone—as an upgrade to your present Fold or for your first foldable smartphone purchase.

Here’s a look at reasons to buy and forego this new Samsung foldable as Galaxy Z Fold 6 preorders now available ahead of the phone’s July 24 release.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 – Reasons to Buy

It has never been lighter and thinner

To make the Galaxy Z Fold 6 simpler to carry around than its predecessor, Samsung changed its design. Though that may not sound like much, you can feel the difference folding the Z Fold 6 into a pocket.

The new phone is 0.05 inches slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 when folded. Though it’s a more subdued distinction, the phone’s smaller profile unfolds as well.

The weight of the phone follows Samsung’s slimmed-down strategy as well. At 8.4 ounces, the Galaxy Z Fold tilts the scales half an ounce lighter than the Z Fold 5. Though the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is unquestionably more portable than any of its predecessors, you still won’t be able to deceive this folding with a more traditional-looking phone.

A more robust foldable

Apart from toning down, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 also toughenses. Though the Z Fold 6 does have more durable glass layers than past generations, you do not get the titanium frame Samsung used on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Samsung additionally covers the phone with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and a twin rail hinge combined with a stronger folding edge helps spread the shock of external impacts better than before. And for more durability, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 now features ratings for water and dust resistance.

A brighter display

Regarding displays, most people’s focus will be on the somewhat larger 6.3-inch cover display as its aspect ratio has changed from previously.

That should make the Galaxy Z Fold 6 simpler to operate without opening the phone one of the ways Samsung’s foldable didn’t compare favorably to other devices as the OnePlus Open and Google Pixel Fold.

Although we will have to test that exterior display to find the degree of improvement, the modification is really welcome news.

Still, the Galaxy Z Fold’s 7.6-inch inner display shows the most advancement in terms of display quality. According to Samsung, the maximum brightness of the screen is 2,600 nits today. Our tests on a light meter found a reading of 2,317 nits—far brighter than the 1,535=nit reading achieved with the Galaxy suntu Fold 5.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 jumps on the trend as phone manufacturers are using brighter panels for their products. The better display means that, whatever lighting situation you find yourself in, any time you unfold this gadget, you should have no trouble seeing details on the screen.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 power

One of those expected changes from one year to the next is upgrading the system-on-chip running a phone. Still, don’t undervalue the potential size of an advance the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset inside could show.

Many of the greatest Android phones run Qualcomm’s top-of- the-line chipset, which drives Better further, in some tests—especially graphics—the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 beats Apple’s top chip. Though battery size is the same from the 4,400 mAH power pack in the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 also excels in power management features, so we will see some improvement in Galaxy Z Fold 6 battery life. Sadly the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s battery test performance still falls short of the remarkable 11.5 hours the OnePlus Open posted.

Depending on where in the globe they were unveiled, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus earlier this year ran either a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Exynos 2400 chipset. Buy this foldable to avoid having to worry about it; you will be getting the greatest Android silicon available.

Galaxy AI features

Samsung has been especially focused on AI features this year, hence the Galaxy Z Fold 6 would naturally contain some Galaxy AI capability. You might be surprised, though, at how effectively some of those elements use the Fold’s distinctive form.

Even on the cover display, Google Gemini is a short swipe away ready to answer any inquiries you might have. Translation, summary, and auto-formatting tools abound in a Note Assist tool, which also offers a transcription capability transforming voice recordings into text.

Additionally, the form shape of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 helps the Interpreter Mode that translates talks real time since both interior and outside displays can show transcripts of the conversation in several languages.

Generative AI next transforms a sketch created in Samsung’s built-in Notes app—using the optional S Pen—into a watercolor, illustration, or cartoon, thereby freshening up the appearance of your drawing in your process. This is very eye-catching Galaxy AI function.

Extended Support

Although the Galaxy Z Fold 6 may be expensive—more on that very soon—Samsung at least wants you to maximize your purchase. Samsung’s newest foldables, like the Galaxy S24 family, rely on seven years of software support and security updates, which should let you hang on to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 for a very long time.

REASONS TO SKIP THE GALAXY Z FOLD 6

The cost has increased

We would arrive to the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, I warned you. Starting at $1,899, the new foldable is $100 more than the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s starting pricing last year. Since the first Galaxy Z Fold, it is the msot Samsung fee for this specific foldable.

Pre-order offers do help to lower that price. With a qualifying trade-in, you may save up to $1,200 on the phone from Samsung and have your storage upgraded free. Add a year of Samsung Care Plus and the savings approach $1,500.

Free Storage Update

When you trade-in an outdated phone, Samsung is taking off Galaxy Z Fold 6 preorders worth up to $1,500. Your presale also entitrates a free storage upgrade. The phone features 6.3-inch OLED (2376 x 968) cover display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage in addition to a 7.6-inch OLED (2160 x 1856) 120Hz main display.

Back on the rear you get a 10MP f/2.4 telephoto lens, 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide lens, and 50MP f/1.8 primary wide-angle lens. Selfie cams feature 4MP f/1.8 inner lens and a 10MP f/2.2 exterior lens. Our first assessment of it was that it was an amazing foldable with fresh artificial intelligence capabilities contained in a smaller and more robust construction.

Although the deal is quite giving, we would want to see prices trend down rather than up. Foldables will have to pay less if they are ever going to be more popular in order to get more people to use these phones. And that’s something the Galaxy Z Fold 6 just offers not at all.

Not much improvement in the cameras

The Galaxy Z Fold 6’s ultrawide camera makes use of a new sensor allegedly to operate better in low-light conditions. Though the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s megapixel rating stays the same, 12MP, that is encouraging news.

Actually, from its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s camera configuration is exactly the same except from changes in ultrawide sensors. You have a 12MP ultrawide shooter, a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

Again, Selife cams reflect what the Galaxy Z Fold 5 brought to the table: a 10MP front camera on the cover display and a 4MP camera under the inner screen.

For a price tag $600 more than what you would spend for the significantly better cameras on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, those are effectively Galaxy S24 camera specs. Though you wouldn’t know from how Samsung handles the device’s cameras, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is among Samsung’s most upscale phones.

The S Pen is still mostly overlooked

One of two products in Samsung’s present portfolio that fit with a S Pen is the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Still, the only handset that truly ships with the stylus is the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The S Pen is an extra accessory for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 that will add even another $55 to your purchase.

Since the Galaxy Z Fold itself lacks a built-in holder, you will also have to add a case with a slot to store the stylus.

As we commended the gadget for before, Samsung is probably trading off thinness and light to make it fit. Treating this item as an add-on when it comes time to sell consumers on the Fold seems contradictory, though, given Galaxy AI functions that now directly touch the S Pen.

GALAXY Z FOLD 6 OUTLOOK

Keep tuned for our whole Galaxy Z Fold 6 review. However, if you now use a few-year-old foldable and you can afford the extra expense, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a decent upgrade based on what we have seen thus far from the phone. Even if their screens cannot fold in two, you should explore other handsets if cameras are vital to you or if you find the Galaxy Z Fold’s price tag to be too outrageous.
