Samsung has not done a fantastic job maintaining Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 under wraps. We recently discovered a pricing leak for the gadgets, and today many fresh pictures of the phone in several color choices have surfaced. These leaks also originate from rather trustworthy sources hence they might be the real deal.

Noted leaker Evan Blass (via 9To5Google) included finely detailed rendered photos of the devices in his newsletter late Thursday night and on social media. Shortly following the Blass leak, WinFuture uploaded new images displaying other colors of both forthcoming folables.

Though the most recent rumors hardly inspire the imagination, both Samsung foldable phones are expected to be unveiled at the forthcoming Galaxy Unpacked event.

Dust Proofing

Clearly, an IP48 rating—which would indicate the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6—protects against particles exceeding 1mm (0.039 inches) in size, clearly not as excellent as what you would get with the more regular Galaxy S24 design. This would be not just better than the IPX8 certification of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5 and past Samsung foldables, but what looks to be the first time a foldable phone has gotten any degree of formal dust proofing?

Ingress Protection (IP) ratings show how well a gadget, such a smartphone, is shielded from dust (the first number) and water (the second), should you not know what these numbers imply. IP68 is the baseline for premium cellphones right now; it basically implies the phone is totally dust-tight and can endure at least 10 feet under water without damage.

Ratings

Let us now consider the IP ratings of more foldables on our best foldable phone guide to provide further background. The recently published Razr Plus 2024 is IPX8; the Google Pixel Fold is IPX8 as also (but a Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold may shortly replace this one). Though ranking highest, the OnePlus Open is IPX4. Not to claim these phones have zero dust resistance; rather, they have not been verified to have it.

Color

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold colors include pink, dark navy blue, and silver based on the leaks. The phone supposedly comes in silver, green, light blue and yellow; the Z Flip 6 color options are vivid and energetic.

Although those are the leaked colors displayed in these pictures, any smartphone could have more colors accessible. We’ll have to wait till the event in July to find out for sure; Samsung occasionally will unveil website-only colors that could have been held back from these leaks.

Conversely, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is only available in three colors hence these could be all the possibilities. The Z Fold 5 in Phantom Black, Icy Blue and Cream is available here. Should the leak be correct, a pink alternative in the Z Fold 6 would be a notable change from the somber tones provided by the prior model.

Four colors are also available for the Galaxy Z Flip 5, therefore reflecting the same number of possibilities revealed in the leaks. Lavender, Graphite, Cream and Mint makes up the Flip 5. As said, the Z Flip 6 leaked colors are vivid, in line with past models.

The official word on Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip colors won’t be long off. The upcoming Unpacked presentation, when foldables should take front stage alongside the Galaxy Ring and maybe new Galaxy Watch versions, is less than two weeks away.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 Cameras

All right, this rumor won’t exactly cause people to line up in the streets for the Galaxy Z Fold 6, but it signifies a difference from the Galaxy Z Fold 5 — and an aesthetically pleasant one at that.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 sports a separate camera bump, with a raised section on the outside of the phone covering the three back lenses.. Ice Universe writes that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is slated to take a different approach, with a camera array that ditches the distinct bulge and just has the lenses protruding slightly from the rear of the phone.

In other words, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 would adopt the same design you’ll see on the rear of the Galaxy S24, where a stack of cameras sprout out of the back of the phone.

I think the new design is much more attractive, and it would also prevent the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from wobbling when you place it on its back. This is a significant improvement if you intend to work a lot with the 7.6-inch internal display and don’t want to have to deal with the phone bouncing around while you tap on the screen.

With being said, Ice Universe has since shared leaked pictures of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 that still show a minor camera bulge. So possibly the change is more subtle than we’re imagining.

Early on in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 rumor cycle, it became evident Samsung was not intending significant camera upgrades on its more costly foldable.

A leaker named Revegnus stated in a since-deleted post on X last fall that Samsung would employ the same GN3 sensor present in the Galaxy Z Fold 5 for its forthcoming foldable. Ice Universe, another leaker, verified that the camera arrangement of the Z Fold 6 is exactly the same as Fold 4 and Fold 5.

More recently disclosed specs have merely validated that. SmartPrix uploaded what it claims to be the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s complete specs, together with images of the phone with a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera, and 10MP telephoto lens. These outside cameras of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 are exactly the same.

Also matching the Galaxy Z Fold 5 are the front-facing cameras on the Galaxy Z Fold 6, allegedly a 10MP exterior camera and 4MP inner selfie shooter beneath the Z Fold’s display.

Although the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s camera configuration does not show any hardware change, the video front might provide some fresh features.

That same specs source verifying no changes to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 cameras also states you will be able to film slo-mo videos in 4k at 120 frames per second and full HD at 240 fps. While the Galaxy Z Fold 5 supports ordinary video recording at up to 8K, slow-motion video topped out at FHD.

For the truly substantial changes to cameras on Samsung’s foldables, we need to turn to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Since the original Flip, Samsung has always endowed the phone with a pair of 12MP sensors to perform the main and ultrawide camera functions. That’s supposedly changing with the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Specifically, the upcoming iteration of Samsung’s flip phone has been predicted to include a 50MP primary sensor. Regulatory filings reveal as much, suggesting that you’ll be able to take better, more detailed photographs with the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

It’s more than simply megapixels. While the Galaxy Z Flip 5 offers optical image stabilization for its rear cameras, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is rumored to add electrical image stablization to the mix. That should mean steadier shoots at night.

It’s worth noting that the enhanced camera would give the Galaxy Z Flip 6 an edge over the current Motorola Razr+, which we rate as the best flip phone of the two. The current Flip has a lower megapixel rating than even the Motorola Razr (2023), which is a midrange device.

It appears very evident Samsung wants to combat the stepped-up competition in the foldable phone area by targeting the cameras on its flip phone, long a weak spot on the Galaxy Z Flip series.

Galaxy AI Photo Features

AI tools have become a big priority for Samsung this year, even to the point where the Galaxy AI capabilities announced with the Galaxy S24 release have found their way to Samsung’s current foldables via a software update.

It’s believed Samsung has more Galaxy AI capabilities in the pipeline, including a handful that might be related to the cameras on the forthcoming Fold and Flip. One rumored Galaxy AI feature supposedly geared at the Galaxy Z Note 6 will purportedly take sketches you do on that phone’s display presumably with the bundled S Pen and augment them with generative AI.

In case you’re keeping score at home, the just-announced Apple Intelligence tools promise a comparable capability in the Notes app of select iPhones and iPads.

If the upgraded Galaxy AI tools are going to use generative AI to enhance drawn drawings, it seems likely that the same approach might be applied to photos acquired with the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s sensors.

Existing Galaxy AI features already let you alter photographs by resizing and moving around items; they’ll also propose potential modifications like removing reflections from an image.

Conclusion

  • The Galaxy Z Fold 6 introduces a sleeker camera design similar to the Galaxy S24, enhancing aesthetics and reducing wobbling when placed on surfaces.
  • Leaks suggest minimal changes to camera hardware compared to its predecessors, the Fold 4 and Fold 5, disappointing expectations for major upgrades.
