The seconds are running down before we must receive Samsung’s upcoming flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy S25. Though they’re still a while off, the company’s upcoming flagship phones are undoubtedly going to be among the greatest when they release.

Consequently, we anticipate that the Galaxy S25 will implement all the requisite iterative enhancements to maintain its position as one of the top Android smartphones available.

Furthermore, considering all of the Galaxy AI features that come with the Galaxy S24, it’s highly likely that Samsung will release the Galaxy S25 with even more intriguing AI-powered capabilities.

We’ve compiled a list of things we’d like to see with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra because leaks have been gradually revealing ideas and hints about what to expect with the Galaxy S25.

The information that we currently know about the Samsung Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra is included below.

  • The next Samsung flagship that isn’t foldable
  • Most likely Samsung Galaxy S25 Release date around early 2025 or January 2025
  • Most likely more than Samsung Galaxy S25 Price $799, $859.99, £799, or AU$1,399)

Price & Release Date

Considering that the Samsung Galaxy S24 line debuted in January of this year, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series is probably going to debut in January 2025, or around.

Though Samsung occasionally releases new models in February, we would certainly anticipate these phones in early 2025 given that previous versions have consistently debuted early in the year.

  • Potentially more expensive than the present models
  • Anticipate the Samsung Galaxy S25 Release date early 2025 or January 2025

These phones could be pricey, too, as it’s possible that they will use the forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor—whose price is also anticipated to rise—in at least some of the territories.

A second Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 leak claimed it will cost about 20% more than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and a more recent leak specifically suggested the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 may cost about $40 (approximately £30 / AU$60) more than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

For comparison, the starting price of the Samsung Galaxy S24 is Price $799 / £799 / AU$1,399, thus it is most likely the lowest price you will be able to spend for the device.

However, Samsung is likely to pass on the price increase to customers if the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 ends end up costing more than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Naturally, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus and S25 Ultra will cost more than the standard model as well.

You’ll likely pay that much or more for the next models, as the Galaxy S24 Plus starts at Price $999 / £999 / AU$1,699 and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra starts at Price $1,299.99 / £1,249 / AU$2,199.

This is quite likely the case, as Qualcomm has stated that the price of its upcoming flagship chipset is expected to increase. If this is the case, there’s a good chance the price of the Samsung Galaxy S25 range will rise as well.

Samsung Galaxy New Names

It’s interesting to note that there are reports that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Ultra may gain new names before we discuss design and specification rumors.

  • The Note could replace the Ultra
  • Possibly the Plus will turn into the Pro

According to a source, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus may debut as the Samsung Galaxy S25 Pro, while the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra may instead be released as the Samsung Galaxy S25 Note.

Compared to many other leaks, this one is less credible in our opinion, in part because just one source has indicated thus far that the identities may be altering.

Nevertheless, there is some reasoning to it, given that the most recent Ultra models, complete with S Pen styluses, resemble Galaxy Note smartphones more than the first Galaxy Ultras.

However, renaming the Plus to Pro might necessitate improving specs and cause some confusion among consumers on which model—the Pro or the Note—is the top of the line.

Performance

  • Rumored chipsets include MediaTek, Exynos, and Snapdragon
  • More RAM may be available in the Galaxy S25 and S25 Ultra than in previous models

There is some ambiguity surrounding the chipset that will power the Samsung Galaxy S25. Initially, it was speculated that Samsung wanted to offer multiple chipsets in different areas with the Galaxy S25 series, as it did with the Galaxy S24 line.

More specifically, it was purportedly planned to offer the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus using Qualcomm’s as-yet-unannounced Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 across the board in the US market, while providing its own Exynos 2500 chipset to Europe, India, and South Korea.

After it became evident that Samsung was having trouble keeping up with demand for the Exynos 2500, rumors circulated that the company might be using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 CPU in all Galaxy S25 models, worldwide.

But most recently, we’ve heard that because Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is so expensive, Samsung may go to MediaTek for assistance with the manufacturing of the Galaxy S25 processor.

Should Samsung and MediaTek really strike a deal, it would indicate that certain Galaxy S25 versions in Europe, India, and South Korea will come with a MediaTek chip (likely the MediaTek Dimensity 9400), while other variants will come with Samsung’s own Exynos 2500.

Similar to the Galaxy S24 series, the US market is expected to remain Qualcomm-only overall. It’s also important to note that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra appears to be available with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 worldwide.

Whatever chipsets Samsung ultimately chooses to employ, one thing is for sure: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be a lot more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, as tipsters have suggested. It may even have a clock speed of up to 4GHz (compared to 3.39GHz for the Gen 3 version used in the S24).

This chipset-equipped Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra may even be more powerful than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, according to an early benchmark. At least in multi-core tests.

Additionally, it’s been rumored that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 may feature quicker RAM, which would enable phones running that chipset to perform more AI tasks.

Speaking of RAM, rumors indicate that the Samsung Galaxy S25 may have 12GB of it (up from 8GB in the Galaxy S24), the Galaxy S25 Ultra may have 16GB (up from 12GB in the previous model), and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus—which has 12GB—may have 12GB, identical to the model it replaced.

Presumably, the Samsung Galaxy S25 will also receive the smooth Android updates that Samsung has finally begun to provide for its latest phones.

Although the Galaxy S25 line’s chipsets appear to remain under wraps, we’re very sure that some regions—most notably the US—will receive a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset based on historical performance.

However, it’s highly likely that some or all Galaxy S25 versions will utilize an Exynos 2500 somewhere. Claims of a MediaTek chipset don’t convince us because it would be an unusual move on the part of the firm.

Increased RAM claims are plausible, particularly in light of the Google Pixel 9 line’s large RAM to support AI.

Design and Display

  • Notable design changes” claimed for the S25 range
  • The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s screen might be larger and its bezels slimmer
  • Furthermore, possible for the S25 Ultra are rounded corners

According to leaker @Tech_Reve, the Samsung Galaxy S25 will feature “significant design changes” in design news. Therefore, don’t expect new phones to look like the ones that are available now. Nevertheless, more recent developments imply that we may be witnessing more refining than revolution.

Regarding the potential shape of these design modifications, a tipster on X has suggested that the Galaxy S25 Ultra may include a screen that is marginally bigger than the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 6.8-inch screen—that is, closer to 6.9 inches.

This report has been confirmed by reputable leaker @UniverseIce, who claims that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will sport a 6.86-inch screen that is 73mm wider than the S24 Ultra’s. But because the bezels and frame are smaller, the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s overall width—77.6mm—may be slightly narrower than the S24 Ultra’s.

Stated differently, it is possible that the Galaxy S25 Ultra boasts a larger screen size without compromising on size, given that it doesn’t seem any taller in their sample photos.

Additionally, according to @UniverseIce, the Galaxy S24 Ultra may get rounded edges in place of its original sharp corners, making it more comfortable to grip.

Since then, they have repeated this assertion and even released a render showing the rounded corners of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, which you can see above.

The same source has subsequently released more pictures of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which once again display the same design.

Additionally, according to the same source, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra may feature the same dimensions, measuring 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2 mm.

More unofficial renders of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra have surfaced, and they display a design resembling the previous ones—that is, flat sides and rounded edges. The phone will weigh 219g, which is less than last year, and the screen size will remain the same, according to this report.

Additionally, a picture of a case for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has surfaced online, displaying a similar overall design with more rounded corners.

We’ve also seen leaked renders of the regular Samsung Galaxy S25, one of which is shown above.

These include a 6.17-inch screen that will most likely be sold as 6.2 inches, and they have a very similar style to the Samsung Galaxy S24.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 measures 147 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm, however it has a black ring around the camera lenses and has somewhat narrower bezels. As a result, the measurements of the device appear to be smaller.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s design is all that we’ve really heard about thus far, but there’s a strong likelihood it will have a larger screen, thinner bezels, and rounded edges given the number of reliable leakers who have made similar claims.

Cameras

  • One-inch, 200MP camera upgrade for the Galaxy S25 Ultra
  • For the S25 Ultra, a 10x telephoto and a 3-5x variable telephoto
  • A brand-new S25 Ultra wide-angle 50 MP camera

Samsung’s phones have been almost unbeatable when it comes to cameras, as seen by the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s dominance over all other phones on our list of the best cameras phones for 2023.

That all changed, though, when the Galaxy S24 was released due to the contentious decision to downgrade the S24 Ultra’s optical zoom camera to a 5x one.

Samsung has its work cut out for it with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, since our zoom test revealed a discernible difference between the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S23 Ultra.

An improved primary camera, a 50MP ultra-wide angle camera (up from the 12MP one on the S24 Ultra), and a new telephoto camera with “variable capabilities” are all mentioned in the tantalizing early rumors.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra was supposed to experience the latter, although the S25 Ultra appears to be a better fit. It could indicate something else, or it could imply that we have a variable telephoto camera that can shift to different zoom levels.

Consider the latest Xiaomi 14 Ultra, which has a variable aperture that can be adjusted to different degrees. Since zooming has always been the Ultra’s strong suit, we sincerely hope Samsung succeeds in this regard to make up for lost time.

For the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung may be doing away with the 3x telephoto zoom, according to a report. Instead of the quadruple camera system that the show is known for, this would produce a three camera setup. This assertion is made by leaker @ISAQUES81 based on a prototype that Samsung is testing.

On the other hand, S25 ultra leaker Ice Universe asserts that the device still has four camera lenses.

The leaker went on to claim that the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s ultrawide and secondary telephoto lenses, which now use 50MP sensors in place of the S24 Ultra’s 12MP and 10MP sensors, need to be upgraded. Other leakers have echoed that assertion.

Less talk is being made at this time regarding the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus’ cameras. One of the few signs of Samsung upgrading to a Sony camera sensor, instead of the ISOCELL sensor used earlier. The Galox, a leaker, claims that the cameras on the S25 and S25 Plus will not gain from a megapixel increase or a different layout.

Samsung recently unveiled new camera sensors, and given that the 50MP ISOCELL GNJ sensor is roughly the same size as the one found in the S24 and S24 Plus, we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw it appear in the S25 devices.

An anti-refractive layer and pixel isolation are two features of the lens that should enhance light capture, lessen reflections, provide more accurate shadows, and enhance color reproduction.

Samsung cannot afford to lose to the iPhone 16 Pro, which is currently atop our ranking of the greatest photography phones, no matter what happens. That’s because Apple’s latest flagship beats Samsung in our visual comparison of the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Battery & Charging

  • Batteries might be bigger
  • However, a new source claims that the regular S25’s battery will be the same size

If the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s claimed power efficiency is confirmed, the Galaxy S25 could break all previous records.

With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 allegedly being created using a 3-nanometer manufacturing method, all three of the Galaxy S24’s versions easily boast significantly longer battery lives than their predecessor. This could lead to the Galaxy S25 producing longer battery lives.

We anticipate that the Galaxy S25 will, at minimum, have the same amount of battery life as the S24. Although there have been long-running speculations that Samsung will include stacked batteries into its flagship series, there is currently no concrete proof that the S25 will do so.

Multiple sources suggest that Samsung will continue to use a 5,000 mAh battery for the S25 Ultra in the interim.

The phone’s ability to charge is one feature that is in dire need of improvement. With the Galaxy S24, Samsung maintained the same 25W wired charging speed, so an update for the Galaxy S25 would be very appreciated.

This is because 45W wired charging speeds are available for both the S24 Plus and S24 Ultra. However, since the OnePlus 12 is evidence that you can have a completely charged phone in under 30 minutes, there’s even more potential to enhance charging overall with the entire S25 series.

Finally, as the Galaxy S9 was the last model in the series to support 15W wireless charging, Samsung will also need to improve the wireless charging speed in the Galaxy S25 line.

It’s past time for an update, especially since the OnePlus 12 has an absurd 50W wireless charging speed.

Samsung Galaxy S25: Software, AI, Design & Camera

If Samsung implements the following adjustments, the Galaxy S25 series might surpass the Galaxy S24 line in terms of impressiveness.

AI

Samsung crammed the Galaxy S24 range with an abundance of AI tools and capabilities, but as our tests bear out, these additions are not only occasionally useful but also kind of cool, sometimes even slowing down performance.

Some of the strongest AI features of the Google Pixel 8s are also absent from the Galaxy S24 series, including as the ability to sharpen old, out-of-focus photos.

So, for the Samsung Galaxy S25 we want more AI features and upgrades to the ones that are available.

CHIPSET

If you purchase the Samsung Galaxy S24 in the US, it comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset; however, if you get it in most other countries, you’ll receive an Exynos 2400. Similar terms apply to the Galaxy S24 Plus; however, the S24 Ultra boasts a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip throughout.

We oppose this divide for the Samsung Galaxy S25 because it effectively gives you a separate phone depending on your location and because one chipset is inherently superior than the other.

Since the Snapdragon is often superior, we would prefer to see the Galaxy S25 running on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 globally, but we would also prefer Exynos over other chipsets in certain areas.

Customers might then more easily determine which phone they are purchasing and whether the reviews they have read accurately represent their options.

SOFTWARE

Samsung enjoys packing its phones with almost infinite functionality, but this has resulted in cumbersome, bloated software, with many of the greatest features—such as AI tools—hidden deep under the settings menu.

We truly want Samsung to address this as it makes the phones difficult to operate and confusing, especially for the Galaxy S25.

DESIGN

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra bears a striking resemblance to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, as do the other members of the S24 family. Therefore, we’re hopeful that the Samsung Galaxy S25 range will have some more significant design alterations.

Good news! Significant changes are reportedly in the works, however it’s unclear exactly what that means. However, a novel design could add to the anticipation for these next phones, whilst a repeat of the current design could make them seem dated.

CAMERA 10x ZOOM

Samsung Galaxy S25 Price, Release Date

One of the more unexpected choices Samsung made with the Galaxy S24 Ultra was to swap out the 10x optical zoom of its predecessor for a 5x one. This wasn’t a bad choice because it still allowed for a 10x optical quality crop and the sensor utilized was an improved 50MP one (up from 10MP).

It did, however, imply that the S24 Ultra’s camera lost a lens that made it more unique from competitors, several of which having their own 5x zoom cameras.

Therefore, we hope to see the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 10x zoom return, albeit with an upgraded sensor and additional megapixels to perhaps allow for a 20x optical quality crop.

We might be able to obtain a 5x cut from Samsung’s 3x zoom camera if it also increases the megapixel count. Alternatively, the S25 Ultra may even include a variable optical zoom that can be set to flip between 3x and 5x, in addition to a 10x telephoto lens, as suggested by one source.

Perspective

Samsung Galaxy S25 Price, Release Date

Samsung has a formidable task in the form of the Galaxy S25. There is undoubtedly more pressure on its flagship phones because, when the Galaxy S24’s processing power and battery life are taken out of the picture, the improvements are negligible at best.

This is especially true now that the S23 has access to the same Galaxy AI functions. Larger improvements are even more crucial for the Galaxy S25’s cameras and charging times.

Conclusion

  • Expected Release: The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is anticipated to launch in early January 2025, following the trend of previous releases.
  • Pricing Predictions: Prices are likely to start higher than the Galaxy S24 series, with estimates of around $799 for the base model and even higher for the S25 Plus and Ultra variants.
  • Chipset Options: The Galaxy S25 may feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 globally, with potential for Exynos or MediaTek chipsets in some regions, which could affect performance and pricing.
  • Enhanced AI Features: Following the introduction of AI in the Galaxy S24, the S25 is expected to bring even more advanced AI capabilities.
  • Design Changes: Significant design updates are rumored, including a larger screen for the Ultra model, slimmer bezels, and possibly rounded corners, aiming for a more modern look.
  • Camera Upgrades: The S25 Ultra is speculated to feature a new 200MP primary camera and improved telephoto capabilities, aiming to reclaim its status in mobile photography.
  • Battery and Charging: While battery sizes may remain similar, improvements in efficiency and potential updates in charging speeds are highly anticipated.
  • Software Enhancements: A streamlined software experience with more intuitive access to features and AI tools is desired to enhance user experience.
